Spiders

Spiders are one of the most feared home invaders. There are more phobias about spiders than any other pest, and understandably so. If you get bitten by the wrong spider - a black widow or a brown recluse - and you have a bad reaction to the venom, you can end up in the hospital. And yes, there have even been some deaths associated with spiders (though much less than you would think - six per decade in the U.S.).

Roaches

If roaches are house hunting, they can check out your place by crawling through tiny gaps around doors, pipes and other open spaces. Some adults can grow fairly large, but can shimmy through slits as thin as one-sixteenth of an inch. Contrary to popular belief, they aren't simply attracted to messy households, although that will extend their stay. Instead, common roaches that invade homes seek out warmth, moisture and darkness. Pizza left sitting out on the counter is just an added bonus.

Flea & Tick

Fleas can make your pets itch and cause considerable discomfort. Fleas may also cause considerable health issues for your pets. That's why it's critical to kill fleas quickly, before they can lay eggs. To protect your pet and home from fleas, it helps to understand the flea lifecycle. A flea has a life cycle that consists of four main stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Generally speaking and depending on environmental conditions - temperature and humidity.

Ants

Ants are one of the most common pests in and around homes in the north central states. Ants are social insects and are divided up into three castes: workers, males, and queens. Trying to discourage ants from invading the home can be frustrating. Proper food storage and waste management will reduce the food that often attracts workers indoors. Clean all kitchen surfaces, vacuum daily, and rinse recyclable containers before storage.
