When Is Termite Swarming Season in New Orleans?

As mentioned above, we have several different types of termites here in New Orleans, each of which swarms at different times throughout the year. Two of the most common types of termites we deal with here in New Orleans are Formosan Subterranean Termites and Drywood Termites.

Formosan Subterranean Termites

Formosan Subterranean Termites, sometimes referred to as “super termites” due to their colony sizes and destruction capabilities, typically begin swarming season in early April. Peak swarming season typically occurs in mid-May, and they continue swarming throughout the month of June.

Drywood Termites

Drywood Termites, which are types of termites that do not need soil or a moisture source in order to survive (unlike Subterranean Termites), typically begin their swarming season in late March. Swarming season for drywood termites typically peaks during May and can continue all they way through November, depending on weather conditions.

Other Termite Species

There are several other species of termites in New Orleans, each of which has different swarming habits.
